Artist - Dominic Boinich, Domo@CounterBalanceArt.com, (831) 234-7555

Born outside Eugene on a commune somewhere, Family migrated to Seattle. My father was a fisherman and carpenter/cabinet builder. Growing up in Seattle, Alaska fishing has a lot of allure for a young man coming out of high school knowing only two things, I have no idea what I want to commit to for a career and I need some wheels. So from 1991-2004 I fished in the Bering Sea and the Gulf of Alaska. Working in construction in of season.

In 2000 I moved to Maui where I met an amazing wood sculpture and painter Dale Zarrela. Loving what he did and doing what he loved is working good for him, and showed in his work. I just didn’t know what I loved to do yet. It may have been that first trip to Burning man that pushed me toward metal art fabrication.

In 2004 I came to California and worked as construction superintendent (there is no love in that). This is where I met one of the most important people to influence my growth as a builder and an artist. Artist, Architect, Bill Gould. Bill offered me a job managing his metal art studio Lizard Skin Studios, it started coming together. For over 3 years we worked with all mediums, metals, glass, wood, cable, ceramics, and concrete.

The concrete media challenges me to: balance the skills I've gained, every material I've worked with, my life experiences, and my influences, into every project. Now my girlfriend Trina and I, also a metal sculptor, have built up our own metal fab concrete and all around design studio (without limits) in Santa Cruz CA. "Five Feet From The Moon Studio" is surrounded by beauty, great people and positive energy flowing on the west side. We are making dreams and pencil sketched ideas real.
